Schoolage Educare, 15 credits (ECTS)

Fritidshemmets pedagogik, 15 hp. Course code: UE2097. The course is a independent course, first cycle, within the subject field of School-age Education and Care. The course starts both spring and autumn and is offered at 50 percent study pace.

Swedish school-age childcare and theories about children’s play and learning

During this course you will learn about Swedish school-age childcare which is also known as afterschool care. Theories about children’s play and learning will be introduced and discussed. You will explore outdoor pedagogy with focus on environments for learning. Value base and conflict issues within the Swedish school will be introduced. Multimodal expressions, including but not limited to drama, visual art and music, will be an integrative part of the course.

The study pace is 50% (half time). Classes are conducted twice a month approximately. In addition to the classes, you will work in study groups and visit various school-age childcare facilities in groups.

The language of instruction is English.

Student groups

The course is offered for international exchange students and for students who have applied for the course as a free standing (single subject) course.

Course period

  • Autumn semester 2019: period A-D, September 2 until January 19
  • Spring semester 2020: period A-D, January 20 until June 5

Prerequisites and special admittance requirements

Swedish upper secondary school courses English B and Social Studies A, or equivalent.

  • For spring semester 2020: application period is September 16 - October 15
